Cello practice log
A simple way to keep a cello practice log: what to practice each day, a free printable chart, and an app that keeps the log for you.
A 25-minute cello practice routine
| Tune and warm up (5 min) | Open-string bows with a relaxed arm weight, listening for an even sound. |
| Scales (5–10 min) | One scale with a drone, then the same scale in the week's rhythm or bowing. |
| Pieces (10–15 min) | Isolate shifts and string crossings; build the tempo up with a metronome. |
| Play-through (5 min) | A review piece from start to finish. |
Check that the endpin height lets the knees and shoulders stay relaxed.
What to write in the log
- The date and how many minutes.
- What was practiced: the scale, the piece and the bars.
- How it went, and anything to ask the teacher.
